07/02/2023 (Agence Europe) – The German subsidiary of the Russian public broadcaster RT announced on Friday 3 February that it was closing its offices following the EU sanctions imposed on certain media close to the Kremlin. This closure comes less than a month after the announcement on 21 January that RT's French subsidiary had been closed after its bank accounts were frozen (see EUROPE 13105/3). Since the EU’s first sanctions package in March 2022 – which enacted a ban on the broadcasting of the Russian media RT and Sputnik (see EUROPE 12902/9) – the German media subsidiary had reduced its capacity.
