Sweden has announced in its programme for the EU Council Presidency that it will continue discussions on the revision of the Energy Taxation Directive. “The current directive is outdated and is not coordinated with other EU measures”, it said in the document summarising its priorities for January to June 2023. At the last Ecofin Council on Tuesday 6 December, EU ministers failed to agree on how to achieve environmental objectives (see EUROPE B13078A4).
