Russian invasion of Ukraine affects short-term outlook for EU agricultural markets

The European Commission published, on Wednesday 5 October, the latest report on the short-term outlook for EU agricultural markets, which shows that agricultural production continues to be affected by the consequences of the Russian-led war in Ukraine.

Total EU cereal production is expected to reach 270.9 million tonnes in 2022/2023 or 7.8% lower than last year. The biggest fall was in maize (55.5 million tonnes, or -23.7%). This decrease is mainly due to the summer drought. Soft wheat...
