ECDC rapid assessment of rare cases of acute hepatitis in young children

The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) on Thursday 28 April published a rapid risk assessment on an increase in cases of acute childhood hepatitis. Cases remain rare and sporadic but the ECDC describes these hepatitises as a public health event of concern. 

The first cases were reported by the UK on 5 April(see EUROPE B12932A17). Since 20 April, 111 cases have been reported from the UK, and since 27 April, +/- 55 probable and confirmed cases have been reported...
