25/01/2022 (Agence Europe) – The French Foreign Minister, Jean-Yves Le Drian, said on Tuesday 25 January that there was “no progress” in the discussions on Iran’s nuclear programme which resumed at the end of November. On 14 January, in Brest, he had called for negotiations to be sped up (see EUROPE 12869/4). “The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) is now in a state of critical emergency,” he stressed at a hearing before the European Parliament Committee on Foreign Affairs. According to him, “we will quickly find ourselves in an untenable situation, because, while we are talking, Iran is rapidly pursuing its nuclear programme. Soon there will be nothing left to discuss”. The French minister hoped that the Iranians “could ensure that we move forward” and that Tehran, like the United States, would return to its previous commitments. (CG)
