On 1 October the European Green Party called on the EU to phase out synthetic pesticides, in line with the demands of the ‘Save the Bees and Farmers’ European Citizens' Initiative (ECI).
By 30 September, the ECI had collected more than one million signatures - exactly 1,132,142, not including thousands of paper signatures yet to be counted - according to the NGO PAN Europe (Pesticide Action Network) (see EUROPE B12801A9).
