06/04/2021 (Agence Europe) – In February 2021, the unemployment rate in the euro area remained fairly stable at 8.3% (13.5 million people), and at 7.5% in the EU (15.9 million unemployed) compared to January, according to a Eurostat release published on Tuesday 6 April. Thus, compared to January 2021, the number of unemployed has increased by 34,000 in the EU and by 48,000 in the euro area (unemployment has decreased in the EU countries outside the euro area). Compared to February 2020, however, unemployment increased by 1.922 million in the EU and by 1.507 million in the euro area. With an unemployment rate of 17.2% at EU level, young people remain particularly affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, although the situation is slightly better than in January (17.4%). The unemployment rate is higher for women (8.8%) than for men (7.9%). (PH)
