More than 260 GW of new generation capacity from renewable sources was installed worldwide in 2020, 50% faster than the growth recorded in 2019, shows the new annual report of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), published on 5 April.
Making 2020 a record year, these figures are partly explained by a “net decommissioning of fossil fuel power generation in Europe, North America and for the first time across Eurasia”, IRENA explained.
