EU ministers call for post-2020 strategy respecting multifunctionality of forests

The future post-2020 strategy must respect the multifunctional character of forests as well as the principle of subsidiarity, the EU Agriculture Ministers stressed on Monday 22 March.

Austria, supported by a dozen countries, criticised the fact that the European Commission wants to focus exclusively on the role of forests in carbon sequestration (see EUROPE B12681A11).

Elisabeth Köstinger, the Austrian minister, said that “some elements” of the future strategy “worry us”.
