US taxes, European Commission ready to renew exceptional wine subsidies

On Thursday 14 January, the European Commission indicated that it is ready to extend until October 2021 the exceptional support measures for the wine sector, which is in difficulty due in particular to new American taxes, . But it has yet to assess the need for further assistance.

Members of the European Parliament’s agriculture committee on Thursday protested against the 25% increase in US customs duties applied to non-sparkling wines and grape-based spirits (cognac, brandy) (25%).
