08/10/2020 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 7 October, 21 MEPs called on the EU “to undertake a thorough investigation and take immediate intervention” regarding Palestinian Authority textbooks written and used by education sector employees whose salaries are funded by the EU, as the books allegedly contain “antisemitic content and imagery, hate speech and incitement to violence, martyrdom, jihad”. In a letter addressed to the High Representative of the Union and the Commissioner for Neighbourhood, the MEPs from the EPP, S&D, Renew Europe and ECR groups from 15 Member States call on the Commission to withdraw some funding from the Palestinian education sector in response to the incitement found in the textbooks. They also suggest that a reserve of 5% reserve should be placed on funding for the Palestinians until such time as positive changes are made to the textbooks.
