On Sunday 2 August, the EU celebrated “European Roma Holocaust Memorial Day” in memory of the 500,000 Roma murdered during the Second World War.
“It's deeply right for us to have this commemoration in the Europe of today. Because the Europe of today is a place where we see a rise in patterns of hate and hate crime directed against Roma, Sinti and Travellers”, said Michael O'Flaherty, the Director of the EU Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA).
