On Monday, 9 March, the Commission confirmed that the ETIAS travel authorisation system for non-EU nationals exempt from needing a visa to travel in the Schengen area and the EU will not be operational before 2023.
As the British newspaper The Independent wrote, the system—which will ultimately affect the British and require them to pay seven euros to travel to the EU for a short stay (less than three months)—will not be ready in 2021, as originally envisaged.
