The strategic importance of Africa for the EU was underlined on Thursday 12 December by EU leaders. The latter have given a mandate to the Commission and the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, to prepare the June European Council’s strategic debate on EU-Africa relations for the African Union/European Union Summit in Brussels in 2020 (see EUROPE B12386A3).
