Phil Hogan, Irish Commissioner appointed by President-elect Ursula von der Leyen to the EU's Foreign Trade portfolio in the new European Commission, immediately gave the line he intends to take in dealing with the United States.

In an interview on the Irish TV channel RTÉ on Tuesday 10 September, he said that “everything in our power” would be done to convince US President Donald Trump to change his trade policy strategy (see EUROPE B12264A17).
