Public consultation on interface between chemical, product and waste legislation

The European Commission opened a public consultation on Monday 23 July on the interface between chemical, product and waste legislation.  The consultation will run until 29 October.

The Commission wants to gather the views of all interested parties in the communication and the working paper on this issue which it presented in January of this year at the same time as the EU plastics strategy.

Stakeholders will be asked, more specifically, to give their views on the four options envisaged to clarify the interface with a view to improving the tracking of substances of concern in products, recycled materials and products made from recycled materials and overcoming difficulties encountered in applying EU waste classification methodologies.

These are the four obstacles identified by the Commission to the creation of a genuine single market in secondary raw materials.  EU environment ministers held a general discussion on the issue in March (see EUROPE 11974).  The Commission has indicated that it has not ruled out legislation.

The public consultation is available online in the 23 official languages: https://bit.ly/2mEcyig.    (Original version in French by Aminata Niang)
