Federica Mogherini says its urgent to implement existing agreements

On Friday evening 23 March, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini underlined "the importance the EU attaches to the full implementation of all existing agreements" between Serbia and Kosovo.

According to a press release from the European External Action Service (EEAS), during Mogherini's meeting with the presidents of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, and Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, she particularly stressed "the urgent need to start with the establishment of the Association/Community of Serb majority municipalities, the Energy Agreement and (to) proceed with the completion of the Mitrovica Bridge".

As part of the new phase of the dialogue, Mogherini, Vučić and Thaçi discussed "the preparations of a comprehensive agreement on normalisation of relations".  "They reviewed progress made in the implementation of the past agreements, in light of recent working sessions held in Brussels", the EEAS press release added.  The technical discussions held on 19-21 March did not enable any progress to be made on implementation of the agreements (see EUROPE 11986).

Mogherini also hailed "the continued commitment by both presidents to the normalisation of relations between Kosovo and Serbia", and she recalled that progress by both on their EU integration agendas is "firmly" linked to progress in the dialogue.  (Original version in French by Camille-Cerise Gessant)
