30/01/2018 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 30 January, the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) adopted an exploratory opinion put forward by Milena Angelova and Panagiotis Gkofas, whereby a request was made for the Small Business Act (SBA) to be binding. The SBA aims to improve European policies by taking better account of the points of view of SMEs. The opinion calls on the European Commission and the Council to include the SBA in the assessment framework of the European Semester budgetary process, with greater cooperation with SME representatives. They also hope that the diversity of SMEs will be better explained and more precise definitions given. The EESC states in a press release that the opinion had been solicited by the Bulgarian presidency of the EU Council. (PH)
