08/12/2017 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 8 December, the European External Action Service announced that in order to accelerate the work of the EU–AU–UN task force in urgently assisting migrants trapped in Libya to voluntarily return to their country of origin, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini will host a political meeting in Brussels on 14 December. She has thus invited the African Union Commissioner for Social Affairs Amira ElFadil (who was recently sent to Libya by the AU to assess the situation on the ground), the International Organisation for Migration Director General William Lacey Swing and the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi to continue the discussions already initiated during the first meeting of the task force on 4 December. The decision to establish the task force was made at the AU-EU summit in Abidjan. (AN)
