06/09/2017 (Agence Europe) – Experts from the member states have opened discussions on the directive relating to establishing a balance between professional and private life. These discussions took place during their meeting of the “social question” group at the Council of the EU on 4 and 5 September. This provided an opportunity for the first talks in this regard and to discuss the European Commission impact study. The delegations highlighted the need to provide standby services for children and long-term care. Several member states also called for greater flexibility when determining their holiday and allocation systems. We were informed that the date of the next meeting has not yet been arranged. It should be recalled that the European Commission presented this initiative in April, at the same time as the European project for a pillar of social rights (see EUROPE 11808). (PH)
