03/08/2017 (Agence Europe) – European Council President Donald Tusk gave evidence on Thursday 3 August as a witness in the investigation into the crash of the presidential aeroplane at Smolensk in 2010 in which the then head of state, Lech Kaczynski, was killed. “Mr Tusk is currently a political target for the PiS and the prosecutors who are not even seeking to conceal that they are carrying out political instructions. This is part of a series of measures against him (Tusk)”, said Grzegorz Schetyna, leader of the opposition centrist party, Civic Platform, to which Tusk belongs. Schetyna was reacting to comments by Jaroslaw Kaczynski, leader of the ruling nationalist, conservative PiS party and twin brother of the late president, which claimed that Tusk was politically responsible for the disaster which claimed the lives of 96 people.
