After a lot of effort on Tuesday 23 May, culture ministers managed to obtain a general approach for the draft directive on audiovisual media services. To obtain this result, the Maltese Presidency had to twice amend its draft compromise, particularly on the question of scope and quotas for promoting content.
The compromise was adopted without the support of Denmark, Finland, Sweden, the United Kingdom, Netherlands, Ireland, Czech Republic or Luxembourg. Hungary abstained.
