12/04/2017 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 12 April during a Bruegel think tank conference, IMF Director General, Christine Lagarde, said that the terms for restructuring Greek public debt should be worked out in advance, while the scale of this restructuring could be set out for the middle of next year when the plan is completed. According to Ms Lagarde, the European agreement of May 2016 on Greek debt should be fine-tuned, so that the IMF can financially participate in the aid plan (see EUROPE 11557). She also believes that with regard to the Eurogroup agreement on the outlines of the reforms that Greece will apply after 2018 (see EUROPE 11764), Athens and its international lenders were halfway into the negotiations towards finalising the second review of the bail-out plan. Once this package of reforms is put together, they will have to negotiate the Greek budgetary trajectory after 2018 and the measures for debt relief. (MB)
