11/04/2017 (Agence Europe) – During a dialogue with citizens on Thursday 6 April, the vice president of the Committee of the Regions (CoR), Karl-Heinz Lambertz (PES, Belgium) expressed the concern in his analysis that the “divorce” between the European Union and United Kingdom could eclipse their debate on the future of the Union and cohesion policy. He also believes that there are two other possible dangers: a tendency to consider that cohesion policy was a “secondary” question in the future of the Union and a tendency to confuse a several speed Europe with a “multidirectional” Europe, which could distance itself from the concept of a “common good”. This speech was made as part of the many different citizen dialogues organised by the CoR in the context of an opinion requested by the President of the European Council, Donald Tusk, on the future of the EU (see EUROPE 11718).
