27/03/2017 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 24 March, the Committee of the Regions (CoR) and the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR) signed a memorandum of understanding that affirms the role of local and regional government in the European legislative process. The two organisations are committed to stepping up their cooperation, particularly with the involvement of CoR rapporteurs in the preparation of biannual action plans defining joint measures in certain areas. A joint multi-annual action plan for 2017-19 was adopted on this occasion. It is based on four different areas: the role played by the regions in developing communication regarding the EU; increasing public investment at local and regional level; enhancing the EU’s dialogue with member states from Eastern Europe in the context of local democracy; and increasing cooperation in the area of sustainable development.
