21/12/2016 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 21 December, the European Commission registered a new European citizens' initiative which calls upon it to grant the right of free movement within the European Union to "Europeans of good standing", by setting in place a universal instrument. The College of Commissioners finds that this initiative fulfils all of the conditions for registration, although its content has not yet been assessed. As the initiative has been registered, it must now receive a million declarations of support over the next year from a minimum of seven member states. The Commission will then have three months to return its verdict. This initiative comes on top of four others already in place: "Stop plastic in the sea", "Save the soils of Europe", "Shaping active and responsible citizens" and "Protect marriage and family".
