On Friday 16 December, the European Commission welcomed the new Global Forum on Steel Excess Capacity set up to tackle the root causes of excess capacity in the steel sector.
It is made up of the G20 countries, as well as members of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and major steel producing countries. It will report back every year to G20 ministers responsible for steel related issues as part of its renewable three-year mandate.
