As EUROPE was going to press on Wednesday 26 October, Belgium’s federal government and federal regions were continuing their talks to enable several of them – the Walloon region, Brussels-Capital region and Wallonia-Brussels federation – to lift their veto to the approval, by Belgium, of the signature of an EU-Canada free-trade deal (CETA). The president of the European Council, Donald Tusk, hoped CETA could still be signed at an EU-Canada summit in Brussels on 27 October.
