12/10/2016 (Agence Europe) – The appointment of a rapporteur for an own-initiative report on the draft directive on protecting whistleblowers has been postponed again, this time until 7 November, following disagreement among coordinators at the European Parliament’s legal affairs committee (JURI) on Wednesday 12 October. French MEP Jean-Marie Cavada (ALDE) says the project is his, although the Greens were the real instigators (see EUROPE 11546). Cavada does not want the S&D to get hold of the report and has decided to appeal to the Conference of Presidents to ask them to decide. This is the second time that the decision has been postponed (see EUROPE 11632), a rare event for an own-initiative report. (PH)
