05/07/2016 (Agence Europe) - EU urges Israel to end settlement policy. On Tuesday 5 July, the Spokesperson for the EU High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy urged Israel to put a stop to its settlement policy and overturn its decision made on Sunday 3 July to advance several hundred new settlement units in East Jerusalem and the West Bank. According to the spokesperson, this "threatens the viability of the two-state solution and calls into question Israel's commitment to a negotiated agreement with the Palestinians". The Spokesperson regretted that "Despite repeated calls by the international community Israel is continuing its settlement policy, which is illegal under international law. The EU urges Israel to stop this policy and to reverse its recent decision". (EUROPE 11585). (CG)
