17/06/2016 (Agence Europe) - EU and UN provide new boost to gender equality partnership. The EU and UN are seeking to work together to boost gender equality and women's empowerment throughout the world in order to achieve gender parity by 2030. With this aim is in mind, EU High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy Federica Mogherini, Commissioner for International Cooperation and Development Neven Mimica and Executive Director for UN Women Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, signed a joint statement on Wednesday 15 June, in Brussels. In so doing they provided fresh impetus to the memorandum of understanding concluded between the EU and UN Women in 2012. The signing took place during the 10th European Development Days event, devoted to the implementation of the universal sustainable development goals by 2030. (AN)
