17/05/2016 (Agence Europe) - EU critical of Uganda's failure to cooperate with ICC. On Saturday 14 May, the European Union condemned Uganda's refusal to fulfil its legal obligations by failing to arrest Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir, against whom an arrest warrant has been issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC), and who was in Kampala to attend the inauguration ceremony of Uganda President Yoweri Museveni. “The EU regrets that Uganda, a State Party of the Court, did not fulfil this week its legal obligation, in accordance with UN Security Council resolution 1593, to execute the arrest warrant against any ICC indictee present in the country”, said the spokesperson of High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini in a press release. Museveni, who was re-elected in February for his fifth term as president of Uganda, called the court “a bunch of useless people”. (AN)
