22/04/2016 (Agence Europe) - International ministerial conference on Middle East to be held in Paris on 30 May. On Thursday 21 April, France's Foreign Affairs Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault announced that an international summit would be held at ministerial level in Paris on 30 May in order to relaunch the Middle East peace process. The summit will bring together around 20 countries, the European Union and the United Nations, but the Israelis and Palestinians have not been invited. According to Ayrault, if the summit is a success it will enable preparation for an international summit in the second half of 2016, this time to be held also with the Israeli and Palestinian leaders. At a press conference with High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini on 22 April, Ayrault stated that the Quartet (the EU, the USA, the UN and Russia) would be “totally associated” with the summit. “The strictest coordination will be ensured”, Mogherini added, saying that the report that the Quartet is in the process of writing would be part of the preparation and the content of the meeting of 30 May.
