Brussels, 07/03/2016 (Agence Europe) - To set Europe on the road to sustainable growth economically, socially and environmentally, environment ministers have called on the EU to incorporate the 2030 agenda for sustainable development and the transition of the EU towards a circular economy in the European Semester budgetary process.
The call was launched in Brussels on Friday 4 March during an exchange of views at the Environment Council on the contribution of environment and climate policies to the European Semester, following publication by the Commission of the 2016 annual growth survey.
Ministers stressed that resource efficiency and the circular economy could create new business opportunities and increase the EU's competitiveness. They said they were persuaded that taking the environmental dimension in to account in defining macro-economic policies can boost growth and create jobs. (Original version in French by Aminata Niang)
