02/03/2016 (Agence Europe) - Kiev wants synchronisation of Ukrainian and EU electricity grids. During a visit to Kiev by vice-president of the European Commission with responsibility for energy Maros Sefcovic on Tuesday 1 March, Ukrainian prime minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk called for the synchronisation of the Ukrainian electricity grid with that of continental Europe. In order to integrate Ukrainian electricity into the European electricity sector, “the best way” would be “for the UK and Ukraine to synchronise the electricity sector, said Yatsenyuk. “I have the political will to make Ukraine part of big Europe. If Ukraine has signed the FTA and should become an integral part of the big economic space of the EU, then it clearly envisages that the energy sector is to be an integral part too, he added. In response, Sefcovic explained that similar solutions had been developed to synchronise the electricity grids of the Baltic States with continental Europe (see EUROPE 11497) and the EU could share its experience in this domain.
