05/02/2016 (Agence Europe) - MEPs call for five publishers critical of Beijing to be freed. On Thursday 4 February, the European Parliament called for the “immediate” release of five publishers of literary works expressing criticism of Beijing and who disappeared in Hong Kong four months ago. In January, it was confirmed that two of them -a Swede and a Briton - were being held held in continental China. More generally, the EP calls for the immediate release of all individuals who have been arbitrarily arrested for having exercised their right to the freedom of expression and publication in Hong Kong. It firmly condemns all violations of human rights, including arbitrary arrests, forced confessions, secret detentions and violations of the right to the freedom of expression and publication, including on the Internet.
