Brussels, 11/12/2015 (Agence Europe) - During the evening of Thursday 10 December, European Commissioner for Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn hailed the Ukrainian Parliament's adoption of the civil service law earlier that day.
This adoption “is a first but very welcome step towards a more effective, depoliticised, merit-based and professional civil service, able to provide better services for citizens”, Hahn said in a press release. The new Ukrainian civil service law underlines the political impartiality of civil servants. Hahn stated that alongside independence of the judiciary and the fight against corruption, reform of the public administration was “one of the most important steps Ukraine must take to build for the future”.
He added that the EU would now provide the Ukrainian government with expert advisers to help design a comprehensive strategy for reform of the public administration. “It is essential that this work advance without delay”, he said. (Original version in French by Camille-Cerise Gessant)
