First Association Council on 11 December

Brussels, 24/11/2015 (Agence Europe) - On Monday 23 November, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini announced that the first session of the EU-Bosnia-Herzegovina Association Council will take place on Friday 11 December.

On 23 November, Mogherini met the chair of the presidency of Bosnia-Herzegovina, Dragan Covic, in Brussels to review the state of progress in bilateral relations, as well as future challenges. According to a press release from the European External Action Service (EEAS), Mogherini and Covic discussed the “impressive progress” that Bosnia-Herzegovina has made as part of its reform agenda over the last year, and also new concrete measures that should be taken to continue the “positive momentum” - thus paving the way to the next phase on Bosnia-Herzegovina's path to Europe.

After years of blockage, Bosnia-Herzegovina achieved progress towards the EU in 2015. Its stabilisation and association agreement (SAA) with the EU entered into force on 1 June (see EUROPE 11325) and the country adopted its reform agenda in July 2015 (see EUROPE 11368). However, the entities are still having difficulty living together.

Mogherini and Covic also spoke about the strengthened efforts to prevent radicalisation and to fight against terrorism. (Original version in French by Camille-Cerise Gessant)
