27/10/2015 (Agence Europe) - EU welcomes way in which first round of presidential elections was held. On Monday 26 October, the day after the first round of the presidential elections in Côte d'Ivoire, the EU welcomed the way in which this stage of the electoral process had been carried out. EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini, stated: “The first round of the election… took place in calm, following the election campaign. The people of the country demonstrated its determination to turn over a new page from the past and promote the anchoring of Côte d'Ivoire in reconciliation and prosperity”. Whilst awaiting the results from the first round, the EU is “calling on the different parties to respect the legal avenues available to them, if needs be”. The EU's election observation mission (EU EOM) will remain in place until the publication of the final results. (AN)
