09/10/2015 (Agence Europe) - EU urges all parties to work for political stability. On Thursday 8 October, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini said she believed Guinea Bissau's leaders and political institutions need “to assume their responsibilities in leading the country back on the path to stability, and to reinforce the rule of law”. The country's president, José Mario Vaz, had two days earlier rejected the government proposed by its prime minister, Carlos Correia, even though the two men are from the same party for the independence of Guinea and Cape Verde (PAIGC). The EU states that the formation of a stable government in Guinea Bissau is “crucial” for implementation of the international support announced at the Donor's Round Table held in Brussels earlier in March (see EUROPE 11282).
