28/08/2015 (Agence Europe) - 4,412 banking establishments managed €43.6 billion of assets at end of 2014. According to data published by the ECB on Friday 28 August, at 31 December 2014 there were 4,412 banks active in the European Union, among which were 37 cross-border groups (€25.3 billion of assets managed), 574 medium-sized banks (€8.2 billion of assets managed), 2,808 small establishments (€985 billion of assets managed) and 993 branches or subsidiaries of foreign banks (€9.17 billion of assets managed). Compared with the end of 2013, the total assets of all the banks active in the eurozone increased by €496 billion to nearly €28,085 billion. (MB)
