Brussels, 30/06/2015 (Agence Europe) - On Monday 29 June, the government of Quebec unveiled its first maritime strategy to improve trade with Europe and make the Canadian city a hub for transatlantic trade thanks to the Saint Lawrence River.
This action plan provides for the creation of logistics centres and the development of industrial and port areas to support Quebec's influence in international maritime trade - especially through the port of Montreal.
Linked to the Atlantic Ocean by the Saint Lawrence River, Quebec is an excellent gateway for goods to the rest of Canada and the north-east USA, including Chicago and Detroit.
On Monday Quebec's premier, Philippe Couillard, underlined the role of the EU-Canada free trade agreement (CETA) in boosting transatlantic trade in the coming years. The CETA is still due to be ratified by both parties (see other article). The maritime strategy unveiled on Monday should, Couillard says, enable Quebec to adapt to these new trade flows.
