Cyber attacks' number one target in 2014 was industry. - In 2014, 43% of companies working in the energy field (mines, gas companies, oil) were targeted by cyber criminals at least once in the course of the year, according to a report by Symantec. The same observation was made by Trend Micro, which points out that 47% of industry was subject to an attack, which is more than the number of attacks launched on government sites. The damage committed by cyber criminals cost each energy company €13.2 million a year, a figure that is higher than in all the other industries, according to a study carried out by Poneman for HP. ABI Research points out that if the energy sector is to protect itself, it has to make investments in cyber security worth around $1.9 billion from now until 2018. (Isabelle Lamberty)
