21/05/2015 (Agence Europe) - EU gives €5.1 million to Red Cross. The European Commission is giving €5.1 million to support the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) with its humanitarian work in Yemen. This new funding, which was announced on Thursday 21 May, “will help provide food, water, medical supplies and other essential aid” for the population, a press release states. European Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management Christos Stylianides underlined the essential role of the ICRC - “one of the very few international humanitarian agencies in Yemen still able to deliver much needed aid to the victims of the conflict”. He reiterated the appeal for “longer humanitarian pauses” in the military operations, so as to be able to reach those most in need. (Jan Kordys)
