20/05/2015 (Agence Europe) - GUE condemns enforcement of anti-communist law. On Monday 18 May, MEPs from the GUE/NGL Group at the European Parliament criticised the enforcement of a new law in Ukraine outlawing the Communist party and banning communist propaganda and associated symbols. In the view of Portuguese MEP Ines Zuber, “this law on communist and national socialist (Nazi) totalitarian regimes in Ukraine and ban on the propaganda of their symbols draws an unacceptable parallel between communism and Nazism” and is “tantamount to an all-out attack on basic freedoms”. Cypriot MEP Neoklis Sylikiotis underlined that the EU has “a responsibility to intervene and condemn this unlawful prosecution”. (CCG)
