21/04/2015 (Agence Europe) - Joint appeal for high driver protection standards on European buses. On Tuesday 21 April, the European Transport Workers' Federation (ETF) and the IndustriAll trade union published a joint statement demanding high driver protection standards for urban bus drivers. They particularly highlighted the need for comfortable seating, protection against assault and effective physical protection in the event of accidents. The two organisations note that “increasing the comfort and safety of the driver… also has a direct effect on the comfort and safety of the passengers”. They also say that “having high standards for the drivers' cabin could be an incentive to keep high quality and high-tech production of urban buses in Europe”. (JC)
