Last “bend” before joining WTO

Brussels, 27/03/2015 (Agence Europe) - Algeria's accession to the WTO, a condition for deepening its trade cooperation with the EU in particular, is reportedly on the right track, according to Algeria's minister for trade, Amara Benyounes - who presented Algeria's accession file to the WTO on Tuesday 17 March. Benyounes stated that completion of the file no longer faced any “major obstacles”. This, in his opinion, is “the last bend” before the home straight. Algeria's latest position will be presented at the 10th WTO ministerial conference in Kenya in December or at the start of next year, Benyounes stated. Since the last round of multilateral negotiations in Geneva in 2014, “131 additional questions” have been raised. Algeria intends to respond to these before the meeting in December. The latest questions to have arrived in Algiers reportedly come from the EU and the US. (Fathi B'Chir)
