12/02/2015 (Agence Europe) - No independent report on single seat. The Conference of the Presidents of the political groups in the European Parliament decided on Wednesday 11 February that there would not be an independent report that could lead to a change to the treaties to allow MEPs to choose where the Parliament should sit. The Conference decided that the issue should be included in the planned report by Guy Verhofstadt (ALDE, Belgium) on amendment of the treaties. “The issue of the single seat requires a change to the treaties”, said a European source. The conference of the chairs of the Parliamentary committees gave its approval to an independent report on 13 January. The proposal for a fresh report on the single seat followed on from a report by MEPs Ashley Fox (ECR, UK) and Gerald Hafner (Greens, Germany) that was adopted, by 483 votes to 141, with 34 abstentions, by the previous Parliament on 20 November 2013 (see EUROPE 10967).
