Summit on innovation for active and healthy ageing (9-10 March)

Brussels, 09/02/2015 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has announced that the European Summit on Innovation for Active and Healthy Ageing will take place on 9-10 March 2015, Brussels. The “Silver Economy” or the economy of senior citizens, encourages innovation to help improve support for the elderly and prevent their loss of autonomy. The conference will tackle this theme and bring public and private actors together from the “Silver Economy” in an effort to build a common vision to respond to the challenges of an ageing society.

The programme will contain a variety of themes and will look at the different opportunities provided by information and communication technologies (ICT) to respond to these challenges, such as the introduction of robots to help in daily tasks, as well as other themes such as tourism based more on demand from senior citizens.

A number of European Commissioners, national ministers and representatives from the regional authorities, business and civil society will take part in the debates. (Isabelle Lamberty)
