BULC and Ansip to meet Uber boss

Brussels, 21/01/2015 (Agence Europe) - After having announced his wish to create 50,000 jobs in Europe, the boss of Uber will meet the European commissioner for transport and the vice-president for the digital agenda, later this week.

The CEO of the Californian transport and driver service, Travis Kalanick, has asked to meet Violeta Bulc and Andrus Ansip. On Thursday 22 January, they will discuss digital technologies and passenger transport issues, given that Uber has been creating quite a stir in Europe over the past few months. Taxi drivers have denounced the unfair competition created by the smart phone Uberpop app, which has also been banned in several cities and countries in Europe (Spain, Netherlands, Brussels, Berlin and Paris).

At a conference in Berlin on 18 January, Kalanick said that he intended to create a “new partnership” with European cities and “create 50,000 new jobs in Europe in 2015”. (MD)
